Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

Mission Highlights

One element of the National Air and Space Museum's mission is to preserve and display aviation and spaceflight artifacts of historical significance. In 2010, the Museum met these goals with two major accomplishments: completion of construction of the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center and the opening of a permanent gallery dedicated to the pioneers of flight. Another equally important mission component is research. Scientists in the Museum's Center for Earth and Planetary Studies fulfilled this element with numerous studies resulting in papers published in major publications.
