There were no new permanent exhibitions in 2012. Work continued on the exhibition, Time and Navigation: The Untold Story of Getting From Here to There, scheduled to open in the Museum in Washington, DC April 12, 2013. Changes also took place in the existing Moving Beyond Earth gallery, which is expected to be completed in late 2013. The gallery gained three displays: a space shuttle main engine, a space shuttle crew quarters reproduction that visitors can walk into, and a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)-sponsored robotics exhibit featuring its research robot named “Autonomous Robotic Manipulator” or ARM.
