On October 28, The Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum will present a spooky mystery night event in celebration of Halloween. The program will feature Aeronautics curator Dik Daso, who will speak about the disappearance of the American B-24 Bomber Lady Be Good. Following his talk, there will be a special screening of Sole Survivor, a 1969 cult classic based on the Lady Be Good mystery. Treats will be handed out after the film.

This event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater at the Museum on the Mall (6th and Independence, S.W.). The program is free to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets and information are available at lectures@nasm.si.edu  or (202) 633-2398.

In 1943, the American B-24 bomber Lady Be Good crashed in the Libyan desert and an extensive search at the time failed to find any sign of the downed aircraft or its crew.

Then, in 1958--15 years after the bomber's disappearance--a British oil exploration crew spotted the wreckage from the air. Over the next several years, items from the crash and the remains of eight of the nine crewmen were discovered. Among the items found was a diary kept by Lt. Robert Toner, which told the story of courage and heroism and helped the armed forces piece together the circumstances surrounding the Lady Be Good's disappearance.
