Redesigned Airbus A350
Designed in response to the Boeing 787, the Airbus A350 XWB is scheduled to enter service in 2013. Built primarily of composite materials, the A350 XWB is a medium-sized wide bodied long range twin-engine jetliner intended to compete against the 787 as well as the larger Boeing 777. Airbus authorized production of the new A350 in December 2006 with the advanced design finalized in September 2007. The aircraft will feature wings and a fuselage made from lightweight composite materials for greater efficiency and durability as well as the latest computerized cockpit and digital fly-by-wire system based of those from the massive new A380 that has just entered service.
