  • Summary

This United States Navy avaitor's uniform was worn by the donor during World War I. He was a member of the First Aeronautic Detachment which was the first American aviation offensive unit to arrive in France on June 7, 1917. In addition the unit flew the first Americian combat patrol from Le Craisic, France on November 13, 1917.

United States Navy (USN) green wool service coat; single breasted with two upper button flap pockets with box pleat; two lower plain button flap pocket; five gold buttons down front; Ensign rank epaulets; gold wire Naval Aviator's badge over left breast pocket; stiff stand or "choker" collar.
