This is a 1:24 scale model of the Nike Zeus, a U.S. Army anti-ballistic missile missile developed in the late 1950s. Designed to carry a thermonuclear warhead, it was first tested in 1959. Because of technical problems the missile would have in destroying Soviet intercontinental ballistic missiles, however, President Eisenhower decided that same year against its deployment. The U.S. Army donated it to NASM in 1960.
