Exterior Shingle Section, Capsule, Gemini
This is part of the exterior of the cabin of a Gemini capsule. Shingles made from Rene 41 are attached to the outer aluminum surface. These shingles protected the capsule from the tremendous heat generated during reentry.
McDonnel Aircraft made the capsules and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration transferred this artifact to NASM in 1972.
