This is 1:48 scale model of the Atlas-Agena D. The Lockheed Missiles and Space Company began developing the Agena upper stage for the U.S. Air Force in 1956. The Agena-D was the last of three versions. As a second stage on Thor and Atlas boosters, it launched a variety of military and civilian payloads from 1961into the early 1970s. As a third stage on top of Titan IIIBs, the Agena-D launched numerous military payloads from 1966-1987. The Agena-D was used as the target vehicle for the manned Gemini rendevous and docking missions as well. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center made this model and transferred to NASM in 1972.
