This is an example of a standard issue Royal Canadian Air Force pilot's tropical twill service coat issued during World War II. The RCAF adopted this 1936 pattern coat from Britain's Royal Air Force. Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) khaki drill tropical service coat ; single breasted with open collar; four brass buttons down front with embossed eagle surmounted by a Queen's Crown and R.C.A.F. below eagle; two upper button flap pockets with box pleats; two lower button flap pockets; RCAF pilot's badge (white embroidered wings on black felt; light brown wreath surrounds "RCAF" in center of badge; St. Edward's (Queen's) crown surmounts wreath and "RCAF") over left breast pocket, seven medal ribbons (1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, UNEF Medal, Canadian Forces Decoration); three stripe Wing Command rank insignia on cuffs; attached belt.
