This Lunar Orbiter model, made by Boeing, was given to Dr. Hugh L. Dryden, Deputy Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from 1958 until his death in December 1965. Five Lunar Orbiters, all of which were made by Boeing, were launched in 1966 and 1967 to photograph potential landing sites for the Apollo missions to the Moon. It is not known who gave this model to Dr. Dryden or when. Mrs. Dryden donated it to the Museum in 1975.
