This four-wheeled vehicle was a developmental prototype for the Apollo missions' lunar rover. Known as a Mobility Test Article, this vehicle helped solve problems associated with the design of the wheel assembly. Later designs of lunar rovers were used on the later Apollo missions.
NASA transferred this model lunar rover to the Smithsonian Institution in 1975.
