When the astronauts first began flying in space in 1961 their spacecraft was equipped with a survival kit not unlike those available on fighter jets. Should the astronaut not be recovered quickly the kit included medical, communication, and safety equipment, as well as food and water. This whistle, manufactured by Acme Whistles, LTD., is a watersafe whistle not unlike those included in other similar kits.
