Matches, Survival, with Waterproof Container, Mercury

These matches and the accompanying waterproof aluminum container were part of the survival equipment stowed in the spacecraft to be used to start a fire in the event of an emergency abort of the mission. All astronauts were trained in survival techniques as part of their overall training.
