This is a retail package of six Estes Industries metal solar igniters designed to be used with the manufacturer's solar launch controller. A single wire is inserted into the aft end of a flying rocket motor and held in place by a disc and tape. Additional wires run between it and the solar launch controller. An electrical charge is sent through the wires to ignite the motor's non-explosive propellant. G. Harry Stine, a pioneer in the field of flying rocket models, donated this artifact to NASM in 1973.
