This is a Saturn 1B flying rocket model built by L.M. Cox. It is based on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's rocket of the same name and configuration that was used by that agency in the Apollo program. The model is plastic with a plastic parachute. Two solid propellant rocket motors propel the model, and then at the end of the vertical flight they force the release of a parachute. The model is then retrieved and can be used again. Not included in this kit are the motors, the launch controller that is used to ignite the motors, and the launch pad from which the model is launched. This model was donated by G. Harry Stine, one of the American pioneers in the hobby of flying models.
