These are two Space Shuttle flying models built by L.M. Cox. They are based on early designs of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Space Shuttle. The models are plastic and have plastic parachutes. Solid propellant rocket motors propel the models, and then at the end of the vertical flight they force the release of a parachute. The models are then retrieved and can be used again. Not included in this kit are the motors, the launch controller that is used to ignite the motors, and the launch pad from which the models are launched. This model was donated by G. Harry Stine, one of the American pioneers in the hobby of flying models.
