Commercial photomultiplier tube typical of those used in the space program in the 1960's. This ten stage photomultiplier tube, Amperex 152AVP, was made by Philips NV. The technical brochure notes that it "is intended for use in applications such as scintillation counting…" and that "… it is particularly suitable for geophysical and astronomical missile experiments". The overall gain for the tube was about one-million fold. It was transferred to NASM from NASA/GSFC in 1995.
