3-D Test: 2.5 x 6.4cm (1 x 2 1/2 in.)

Can--steel metal with paper label

This can of beef stroganoff with sour cream sauce was manufactured for cosmonauts to consume in space. It comes in a small can with a yellow paper wrapper with a red design and typed letters in both Russian and English. The design is of the Soviet space shuttle Buran. Food for spaceflight must be nutritious, lightweight, and easily stored. As astronauts and cosmonauts spend increasing amounts of time in space, the food must also be appealing.

The Director of Moscow's Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics donated this can during a visit to the National Air and Space Museum in 1996.
