This is a model of unknown scale of the Rapier, a mobile British surface-to-air missile designed to provide low level air defense. It has a solid-fuel motor, a conventional warhead, a maximum speed of over Mach 2, a range of up to 5 miles, and a ceiling of approximately 10,000 feet. First deployed in 1971, the Rapier is still in service today.
The manufacturer is unknown. John and Cynthia Heyde donated the model to the Museum in the late 1980s.
Gift of John S. and Cynthia H. Heyde.
