This item is part of a duplicate test equipment kit from the backup Skylab Orbital Workshop displayed in the Museum. Skylab was launched into low Earth orbit in May 1973 and occupied until February 1974 by three-man crews on three different missions. Several onboard tool kits contained a variety of tools and supplies for basic repairs and maintenance tasks that the astronauts might need to do while in space.

A three-drawer container of testing equipment, made by McDonnell Douglas, was transferred to the Smithsonian with the backup Skylab Orbital Workshop in December 1975.
