Trophy, Silver Award Swing, Arthur Murray World Dance-O-Rama, 1973, C. Draper
This trophy was part of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio World Dance-O-Rama Silver Award for Swing given to Dr. Charles S. Draper in 1973. Dr. Draper was the founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Instrumentation Laboratory and developed guidance systems for aircraft, naval vessels, rockets, missiles, and spacecraft. One of his avocations was dancing, and he won this trophy for his efforts in this area. Although the Smithsonian collected many of his other awards, only a few of his dance awards became a part of the National Collection, for the purpose of being displayed in a possible biographical exhibit.
Dr. Draper donated a large collection of his awards, including this trophy, to the Smithsonian Institution in 1974.
