National Air and Space Museum Centennial of Military Aviation Events
The year 1903, which saw the birth of flight, was the ultimate milestone in the history of aviation. The next pivotal year in aviation was 1909, during which the U.S. Army purchased the first aircraft destined for military purposes, the Wright Military Flyer.
To mark the centennial of this significant event, the National Air and Space Museum will hold a series of programs throughout 2009 dedicated to military aviation. Here is the schedule of events. Check back often for additional programs.
