Ask an Expert Series
Presenter: Richard Paul
Wednesday, February 27, 2013
12:00 pm to 12:15 pm
Space Race
Museum in Washington, DC

Join Verville Fellow Richard Paul for a look at an unexplored chapter in the space program, NASA’s impact on civil rights.  The space program and the civil rights movement started at almost the exact same time and their intersection demonstrates how African-American space workers in the South were able to assist in redefining racial identity in late 20th Century America.

The Ask An Expert lecture series at the National Mall building is presented every Wednesday at noon. A Museum staff member talks to the public about the history, collection, or personalities related to a specific artifact or exhibition in the Museum.

Participants should meet at the Welcome Center in the Milestones of Flight gallery (Gallery 100).
