Meet astronauts and experts.  Experience a live conversation with an astronaut on the International Space Station.  All of the activities take place amid the awe-inspiring collection of historic aviation and space artifacts in the Museum’s National Mall building. Activities include:

Meet Astronauts

10:45 AM & 2:15 PM
Current NASA Astronaut, Daniel M. Tani (STS 108 and Expedition-16—launched with STS 120 and returned STS 122)

11:30 AM & 1:30 PM
Retired NASA Astronaut, Jay Apt, PhD (STS-37, STS-47 Spacelab-J, STS-59 and STS-79)

Live from Space!
1:01 PM (barring technical difficulties)
Hear a live up-link to an astronaut on the International Space Station, courtesy of Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS)

Activity Stations 10 AM – 3PM

Signatures in Space
Sign a giant poster to be sent into space on a future mission.

Washington Metro Area LEGO Users Group
Marvel at displays of LEGO creations and enter the “pit” full of bricks where you can make your own spacecraft.
 
Northern Virginia Association of Rocketry
See home-built rockets and learn how to build your own flyable model rocket.
 
Make a Mission Patch
Design a space mission patch like astronauts wear and take it home.

Design a satellite
Learn about the parts of a satellite and build a 3-D model to take home.

Build a Space Station
Use recycled materials to contribute to a group-build project.  You can also make a small spacecraft to take home.
