Family Day at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

Family Day
Hispanic Heritage Month Program
Argentina at the National Air and Space Museum
Saturday, October 16, 2010
10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Throughout the Museum in Washington, DC
Admission: Free

To commemorate Argentina’s bicentennial, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is showcasing Argentineans who have made significant contributions to aviation and space exploration.

A century ago, Jorge Newbery flew balloons and founded the first aero club in Latin America.  Hear his story and discover how hot air balloons are made.

Today, Argentina is a leader in space exploration.  Meet Pablo de Leon and members of the National Commission of Space Activities (CONAE).  Learn about current satellites and missions.  Find out how space suits are designed.

There will be hands-on activities, story times, and demonstrations.  Several programs will be offered in English and Spanish.

Please watch this space for a more detailed schedule of events closer to the date.

This program is part of the National Air and Space Museum’s 2010 Heritage Family Day series and the Argentina at the Smithsonian 2010 series and is organized by the National Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian Latino Center; with participation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina and the Embassy of Argentina in the United States.

The program is made possible by the generous support of the Northrop Grumman Corporation.
