Pioneers of Flight
Saturday, November 20, 2010
10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Barron Hilton Pioneers of Flight Gallery - Gallery 208
Museum in Washington, DC
Admission: Free

To celebrate the opening of the Barron Hilton Pioneers of Flight Gallery, the Museum is hosting a Family Day. Activities will focus on the 1920s and 1930s, formative decades in aviation when flight technology rapidly advanced; military and civilian aviation grew tremendously; record-setting and air racing captured public interest; African Americans began to breach the social barriers of flight; and modern rocketry was born.

Fun for the whole family!  Be one of the first visitors to experience the Museum's brand new exhibition about the early pioneers of flight.

- Earn a Junior Aviator’s Certificate by learning about rockets, famous airplanes and their pilots, and air-minded organizations.

- Talk to family members of people featured in the exhibition and other experts.

- Interact with Amelia Earhart at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM

- Come to three story times at 11:30 AM, 12:00 PM, and 1:30 PM

- Experience Little Red Rocket Hood, a puppet show by the Good Life Theater 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

- Learn about William Powell in a play by Discovery Theater 11:15 AM, 12:45 PM, and 2:15 PM.

- Meet Tuskegee Airmen at 11:00 AM and 12:45 PM

Hands-on activities throughout the day.

This schedule is subject to change. A complete schedule of events will be available at the Welcome Center on the day of the event.
