Andrea K. Dupree is a Senior Astrophysicist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, part of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has studied stars like the Sun with IUE and is past President of the American Astronomical Society. She has been active in deliberations over the future of astronomy.
The International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) was the first experiment to explore the full range of ultraviolet radiation from the universe, all of which are inaccessible from the ground. IUE trail blazed international collaborations in space, developed new observing paradigms, and paved the way for the Hubble Space Telescope.
