Join us for a special Super Science Saturday!
See helicopters on display outside the Museum for one day only. The U.S. Coast Guard, Fairfax County Police Department, Army National Guard, and private owners are expected to fly in for the occasion. The helicopters will be on view outside the Museum, weather and circumstances permitting. Bring the family and get up close and personal with these aircraft, you will even be allowed to sit inside some of the cockpits.
Among the helicopters flying in:
UH – 72 (Lakota)
Eurocopter AS355 Twin Star
Fairfax County Bell 429
Coast Guard MH–65 Dolphin
Inside the Center, visitors will have the opportunity to learn how helicopters work through art activities, discovery stations, conversations with individuals working in the field, model helicopter flying demonstrations, and presentations. Talk with visiting members of the US Navy Helicopter Association, Virginia Airborne Search and Rescue (VASARS), Helicopter Association International (HAI), and American Helicopter Society as they share their work. Try your hand at flying an RC Helicopter and make sure to stop by our new Helicopter Discovery Station to learn how helicopters fly. A special treat will be the team of University of Maryland students who set a world record with Gamera II, a human-powered helicopter.
This is sure to be the most SUPER of all the Super Science Saturdays. Don't miss it!
