Dr. Tom Bogdan, Director of NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, will provide an overview of how space weather can affect our advanced technologies-based global economy. The Center is the official source for our Nation's space weather prediction, forecast, and warning services. It operates 24/7 and is one of a handful of National Critical Systems operated by the National Weather Service. Using real-time data from a variety of sources, his staff provides space weather guidance that is critical for the safety and success of our most advanced technologies; including space exploration missions; homeland security and national defense; telecommunications satellites; air transportation communications; and the national power grid infrastructure.

Pre-lecture activities, including Discovery Stations, a film feature, and a "get to know the lecturer" warm-up with the lecturer begin at 6:00 p.m. Free tickets are required and may be reserved at airandspace.si.edu/tickets. Check Web site for updates on pre-lecture activities.

The Exploring Space Lectures are made possible by the generous support of NASA, Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp and Aerojet.
