Mutual Concerns is a unique, international meeting specifically focused on the needs of the air and space museum community. The bi-annual conference features three days of panel discussions and concurrent sessions, offering everything from practical, in-depth information to timely tricks of the trade. Serving both large and small museums, conference sessions cover relevant topics like fundraising, preparing the next generation of museum staff, providing educational activities, archiving collections, and exhibiting.
The meeting is designed to provide participants with meaningful and relevant professional education in a variety of areas important to the air and space museum community, as well supply ample opportunities to network with colleagues from around the world. Over 100 museum and museum-related organizations attend.
The meeting hosts a small Marketplace with exhibitors who offer special services or experience to air and space museums. The meeting’s venue and set-up allows participants to have ample time to get to know Marketplace exhibitors and their services.
The 2016 Mutual Concerns Conference will be held in the New York City area with co-hosting museums The Cradle of Aviation and The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. The Conference will begin with an evening reception on Friday, April 1 at the conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson. Conference sessions will run from Saturday, April 2 through Monday, April 4. Sessions will be held at the Hyatt Regency on Saturday, April 2, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on Sunday, April 3, and at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Monday, April 4.
Sessions include: Challenges of Curating the Present, Surviving and Thriving After a Disaster, Crowdfunding, 3D Modeling, and the One Person Development Office. Former astronaut Michael J. Massimino will be the keynote speaker. There will also be a number of exciting, optional fieldtrip opportunities spanning the area. Trips are being planned for conference evenings and Tuesday, April 5.

Standard Fees: Price for registration is $590 per person for early registration and $625 per person at the regular rate. Multiple registrants from the same organization receive discounts. Exact fees and full registration details are available on the registration page.
Optional Fieldtrips are planned for Tuesday, April 5.
Please note we have worked extremely hard to keep the 2016 registration as low as possible, though the rate is still slightly higher than previous years due to the costs of holding the conference in the New York City area and providing multiple museum visits. We hope the richness of the agenda, significant touring experience, and additional food and transportation offset the increased cost—and please remember that the next Mutual Concerns conference will not be held until 2018.
Registration will close on March 21, 2016. Any registrations received after this deadline will incur a $50 late registration fee.
The Hyatt Regency Jersey City is located on the Hudson River, directly across from the World Trade Center and overlooking New York Harbor. Visitors enjoy Jersey City's quaint restaurants and waterside views while being minutes away from downtown New York City. Manhattan is only a five minute ride away on the PATH train located adjacent to the hotel or visitors can take the NY Waterway Ferry to various docks on the Hudson River.
The room rate has been negotiated to $134 per night for a standard room. This rate is being offered to conference participants from April 1 - 4.
Make your reservation before 5:00 pm EST, Friday, March 11, 2016 to take advantage of the conference rate. Space is limited. Room rates are subject to availability after March 11, 2016.
Room Cancellation Policy
Reservations may be canceled before 4:00 pm EST the day before the scheduled day of arrival.
On-site parking is available for a rate of $25 daily and $38 overnight (in and out privileges) until 5:00 pm the following day.
Due to high demand, an additional room block for Monday and Tuesday nights is reserved at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel and Suites Jersey City. Room rates are $199 per night for a refundable reservation (can be cancelled 24 hours before 4:00 pm arrival). Newark Liberty International Airport is strongly recommended. It is the closest airport to the Hyatt Regency Jersey City and is a 20-minute, 12-mile taxi ride to the hotel that costs approximately $40.
LaGuardia Airport is located 35 minutes away and is about a $60 taxi ride.
JFK Airport is an hour’s ride and about an $80 taxi ride.
Amtrak has three near Jersey City: Newark Penn Station, Newark Liberty Airport Station, and Penn Station in New York City. Each is about a 30-minute, $50 taxi ride without traffic.
PATH service is available directly from the Penn Newark Station. Various public transportation combinations are available from all airports and train stations. All travel time estimates are dependent on traffic.

Mutual Concerns hosts a small exhibitor forum called the "Marketplace," featuring vendors that offer services and products of interest to air and space museum professionals. Every year, we welcome back some familiar sponsors with new information and seek a few new and different exhibitors to add to our forum, to provide our attendees with the latest information on areas that interest them.
