Dr.
David DeVorkin
Curator
Dr. David
DeVorkin is a curator in the Space History Division of the Smithsonian’s
National Air and Space Museum. He joined the museum in 1981. DeVorkin
trained in astronomy, physics and the history of science, holding
degrees from the University of California–Los Angeles, San Diego
State, Yale University and the University of Leicester. From work
experience at those institutions, as well as the Lick and Yerkes
Observatories, where he was night operator of the two largest
refracting telescopes in the world, DeVorkin gained an intimate
appreciation for the nature of classic observing techniques in
astronomy in traditional observatory settings. His historical
research centers on modern astrophysics in the 20th century. He
has written or edited eight monographs in the history of astronomy
and the space sciences, and has written some 100 articles for
a wide range of journals.
Beatrice
Mowry
Designer
Beatrice
Mowry is an exhibition designer in the Exhibits Division of the
Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. She joined the museum
in 1982. Mowry has designed museum art shows, space and aircraft
exhibitions, the entrances to the museum theater and planetarium,
posters, brochures and logos. She has a bachelor of science in
advertising design degree from the University of Maryland and
a master of fine arts degree from the George Washington University.
David
Romanowski
Writer
David
Romanowski is a writer-editor in the Exhibits Division of the
Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. He joined the museum
in 1987. Romanowski has written the exhibition label scripts for
the "Explore the Universe" and "How Things
Fly" exhibitions and recently wrote the "Official Guide
to the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum," to be
published by Smithsonian Institution Press in 2002. He also edits
all exhibit label scripts written by the Museum's curatorial staff.
He has a bachelor of arts degree in geosciences from the State
University College at Buffalo, New York.
