Family Air Travel in the 50's
Passenger, June, 1955
In 1955 my husband and I with a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old flew from Vancouver, Canada, in a small plane to Seattle and waited for about three hours for the next flight, which I believe left around 6:00 p.m. We arrived in New York the next day at 8:00 a.m. and spent the day with relatives. We left at midnight and were in Port of Spain at 8:00 a.m., where we changed planes. It was Pan Am, and they had promised me a bassinet but of course didn't have it, so I had to hold my son on my lap all the way. At 6:00 p.m. we landed in British Guiana. Now you could probably do it in one day.
