De mundi sphaera
(On the Heavenly Spheres)
Oronce Fine; Paris, 1542
An accomplished artist, Fine wrote this popular astronomy textbook and also produced its beautiful woodcut illustrations. One of the pages on display shows the author (“Orontius”) holding an astrolabe as he sits next to the muse of astronomy (“Urania”) and below a depiction of the heavenly spheres.
