Flight Comes to Hawaii

An airplane first flew in Hawaii only seven years after the Wright brothers' historic flights at Kitty Hawk. From then on, a flurry of exhibition flights and record attempts drew thousands of spectators and created great excitement.

The stories of some of these early flights show just how daring they were, and how dangerous it was to fly over the islands or to cross the vast ocean and reach Hawaii by air.
