Museum Visitor Information FAQ

Q: When did the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center open to the public?

A: December 15, 2003. More information is available on the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center history pages.

Q: Will the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center replace the Museum on the National Mall?

A: No. The new center is an addition to the Museum complex and will allow the Museum to display 80% more of the collection to the public, including the SR-71 Blackbird, Space Shuttle Discovery, and Boeing B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay. The Museum on the National Mall will remain open with its key artifacts still on display, including the Wright 1903 Flyer, Apollo 11 Command Module Columbia and Ryan NYP Spirit of St. Louis. More information is available on the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center pages.

Q: How do I find out which artifacts are currently on display?

A: Artifacts are frequently moved and/or removed from display for various reasons. You can check which major artifacts are currently on display by visiting the individual exhibitions pages via the Museum Map. To be certain the artifact you want to see is on display when you plan to visit, you should call the public information number at: (202) 633-1000.

Many of the Museum's artifacts in storage are being moved to the Udvar-Hazy Center. See the list of artifacts that are currently on public display at the new facility.
