Loening OA-1A "San Francisco"

Loening OA-1A "San Francisco"

The Loening OA-1A in the Museum’s collection participated in the historic Pan-American Goodwill Flight of 1926 and 1927. The unusual-looking craft, named San Francisco, was an amphibian with its 420-horsepower engine mounted upside-down, necessary for the propeller to clear the forward end of the hull. The San Francisco is on display in the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
