The painting is based on the historic photograph of Buzz Aldrin that Armstrong took on the Moon. You can see him reflected in Aldrin's visor. The National Air and Space Museum will premiere Alan Bean: Painting Apollo, First Artist On Another World at the Museum on the National Mall July 16, 2009 through January 13, 2010 in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of the first Apollo Moon landings.
