Beagle Rupes, Thrust Fault on Mercury

Beagle Rupes, Thrust Fault on Mercury

Beagle Rupes, a newly discovered tectonic landform on Mercury imaged by MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging (MESSENGER) spacecraft.  Beagle Rupes is a lobate scarp, the surface expression of a thrust fault, over 600 km long that transects the Sveinsdóttir impact crater.  The mosaic combines black and white images with color data from the Mercury Dual Imaging System (MDIS).  dit: NASA/Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory/Carnegie Institution of Washington.
