The Wing Scout program began in 1941 for Girl Scout Seniors who were interested in aviation. Girls learned how to navigate and repair airplanes and earned their pilot certification. This photograph shows Washington, D.C. Wing Scouts posing before their flight leaves for a New York City sightseeing trip.
