Maurer data acquisition cameras, used to document technical aspects of missions, were powered by batteries like this one - used only for crew training - during lunar missions outside the lunar module. Astronauts used the motion picture camera with its large battery while exploring the lunar surface on their lunar roving vehicle. The moving images were later viewed back on Earth to determine how well the equipment worked and how mission requirements were accomplished.
This battery was transferred from NASA to the Museum in 1975.
