Mercury astronaut Walter Schirra took the first Swedish-made Hasselblad 500C 70mm camera into space in 1962. This camera, outfitted with a Zeiss f 2.8 lens, may have been used during a Gemini mission in 1965-66.

The NASA Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston gave this camera to the Smithsonian in 1969.
