The works of artist Robert McCall, whose six-story-high painting "The Space Mural: A Cosmic View" greets visitors in the south lobby of the Museum, are displayed in a retrospective entitled, "The Works of Robert McCall"(September 26).
"Fire and Ice: A History of Comets in Art," opens to the public. It includes a neon sculpture commissioned to commemorate the reappearance of Halley's comet after a 75-year absence (October 24).
The nation's first Space Shuttle orbiter, Enterprise, is transferred from NASA to the Museum's collection. It circles Washington on its 747 carrier before landing at Dulles Washington
International Airport (December 6).
