This series consists of materials covering the period between Davis' admission to the United States Military Academy at West Point in June 1932 and his retirement from the United States Air Force in January 1970. Davis' general military records (Personnel, Medical, and Flight Records files) are filed first, followed a series of photo albums and scrapbooks covering Davis' career through 1948, but not separable by posting. Other materials follow, arranged chronologically by posting. The arrangement of records originally filed in groups clipped to different sides of the same folder or divider has been retained.

Much original material, including orders and newsclippings, relating to Davis' early career (through 1948) has been compiled into a series of scrapbooks by Agatha Scott Davis. This material is located in Subseries II.B. Materials relating to Davis' tenure at United States Military Academy (West Point), a copy of his Master Personnel Record (MPerR), and a number of unit histories were collected or acquired by Davis while he was researching his autobiography. Such documents are located in Series IV.
