NEW TWIN-ENGINE ARMY BOMBER NOW IN PRODUCTION: Now well under
mass production for the air Corps is the North American B-25
medium bomber, one of which is pictured here in flight from
Wright Field Ohio. From the date of the original War Department
contract late in 1939, approximately 150 company engineers worked
constantly on the design and detail planning of the new bomber,
which constitutes one of the most effective elements in the Air
corps' striking power - combining long range and large bomb
capacity with high speed. The B-25 is powered by two 1,700 hp
Wright 'Cyclone' double-row engines and has a speed of over 300
mph. It carries a crew of 5 men for wartime missions. Extensive
provision for crew comfort have been incorporated into its
design, on the theory that maximum tactical efficiency of
personnel can thus be attained. Fully retractable tricycle
landing gear is also featured. 1941.
