Collection Item Summary:

Charles A. Arens (1895-1967), left, early aviator, founder of Arens Controls, Inc., and secretary of the Early Birds of Aviation, stands with an unidentified man (possibly a member of the Early Birds) next to an Early Birds members plaque in an unknown location; possibly the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building. Arens holds the Early Birds' member's checked flat cap. The plaque is similar to the Early Birds plaque on display in the Early Flight Gallery of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (artifact A19870327000).
