Pilot Charles A. Lindbergh poses informally in front of his new Ryan NYP 'Spirit of St. Louis', probably at San Diego, California, before he flew the aircraft to St. Louis, and then on to New York. On May 20, 1927, Lindbergh would depart New York for Paris; the following day he landed safely at Le Bourget Field, becoming the first pilot to make a successful solo transatlantic flight.
