This is one of seven propeller artifacts donated by the U.S. Army that powered airships between 1919 and 1925. According to the accession record, its particular application was for 186 kw (250 hp) engines .

The manufacturer was Courtney Pope & Co. Ltd, a British firm that was a “shop-fitter” before World War I and made products such as advertising signs following the war. Government use of experienced manufacturers of wood products to produce propellers during the war was a common practice in Britain and the U.S.
