Two views (one-half right rear view, close up) of US Army Air Service Curtiss JN-4D Jenny modified to airplane ambulance configuration, on the ground at Scott Field, Belleville, Illinois; aircraft was placed in service November 25, 1918. Modification seen here (with fabric removed to show internal structure) allows patient to be loaded through the right side of the rear fuselage. Top: patient stretcher partially loaded into aircraft; bottom: stretcher fully loaded into aircraft with fuselage access door closed.
