Collection Item Summary:

This Spectra doll was issued by Mattel Toys, the maker of Barbie dolls, in the mid-1980s (1986 or 1987). With its pink and silver hair and metallic-painted plastic body, the doll was considered to look futuristic and sold in a box with the tag line "Lacy - Spacy - Out of This World." According to the backstory developed for the toys, the dolls represented alien beings from the planet Shimmeron who had come to Earth searching for fun and excitement.

The doll and costume was donated to the Museum by Mattel in 1995.
