This 15X zoom lens was used with a Canon 8mm format video camera on Space Shuttle flights in the 1990s until at least 1996. Astronauts could use several interchangeable lenses for different photography tasks, such as capturing video of Earth through the windows, filming crew activities, and documenting technical problems inside the vehicle. The lenses and camera body both contained computers that "talked" to each other to ensure proper exposure. This lens was used on a Space Shuttle flight.

NASA transferred various cameras and lenses to the Museum when they were no longer needed for missions in space, this one in 2005.

This object is on display in James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.
